What Types of Regular Lexus Service Should you Have Performed?

You bought your Lexus for a reason – you love luxury, style, and great performance.  You might be the do-it-yourself type, but then again you might just be the curious guy too.  What type of regular maintenance is needed in order to keep your car operating at peak levels?  It really depends on the model, age, and mileage of your car, but in general there are certain things you should be doing.

1. Change oil every 5000 miles.  You hear the commercials on the radio and television recommending you change your oil every 3000 miles, but that’s really an overly conservative estimate.  In reality, all you need to do is to have your Lexus service change the oil every 5000 miles. 
2. Have your tires checked for rotation.  At 5000 miles, you should also have your tires checked to see if they need to be rotated.  In most cases, your tires should be rotated every 5000 miles.  The weight of your car is not distributed evenly, so each tire wears out at a different pace.  If you never rotated your tires, then the tread would wear down to the point where one tire would blow out, leaving 3 tires in decent shape.  Instead, you can get your tires to wear out evenly by rotating them regularly.  It’s a simple job either you or your Lexus service can perform. 
3. Check your fluids once per year.  With the exception of oil, your Lexus service should check fluid levels (coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and battery level) at least once per year.  Keeping those fluids in tip-top condition helps your vehicle’s longevity and performance much more than you think. 
4. Inspect brake lines, hoses, and belts.  These should all be checked once per year.  Hoses typically require replacement about every four years, while belts are most often replaced every three.  The best strategy is to have your Lexus service replace them when they are thoroughly worn as they cost more time and money when they actually break, but few people choose to do this.
